How to submit the LAUSD Choices application for 2027–28

LAUSD Choices is the application for optional programs such as magnets, dual language, and Schools for Advanced Studies (SAS); your neighborhood resident school is a separate enrollment path. Submit a Choices application for a 2027–28 kindergarten or Transitional Kindergarten (TK) seat by November 6, 2026; the window opened October 1. 2027–28 brochure

Before you apply

1. Check the child’s age. For kindergarten, the child must turn 5 on or before September 1, 2027. For TK, the child must turn 4 by September 1, 2027.

2. Contact the school. LAUSD recommends contacting each school before applying to ask about information sessions, visits, uniforms, and transportation if available.

3. Check eligibility and verification steps for every program. Some programs require extra steps to confirm eligibility. For Schools for Advanced Studies (SAS) or Gifted and Highly Gifted Magnets, the family of an applicant not currently enrolled in an LAUSD school must make sure the current school submits the Verification of Eligibility form to LAUSD by November 20, 2026. Fill out one application

4. List up to six programs. You may include multiple schools within each program.

5. Choose the program order carefully. Within a program, the waiting list is for the first-choice school only. Read how to rank magnet choices before ordering schools.

6. List every sibling if requesting sibling priority. Siblings must live at the same address.

7. Submit once. If multiple applications are submitted for the same student, only the first is considered.

After you submit

8. Make online edits by November 6. The online application can be updated through the on-time deadline. To correct information after that, email ApplyforSchools@lausd.net by December 18, 2026.

9. Watch for the next notices. Gifted/SAS eligibility notices are expected in January 2027. Selection and waiting-list notifications are sent during early February 2027.

10. Respond by March 5, 2027. Accept or decline by the deadline. No response counts as a decline, and declines are final. See March 5 vs. March 12 and the missed-deadline guide.
